Forgiveness is easily obtained from our merciful Lord, but it must start with recognition that we are sinners and a demonstration of our sincerity by confession. Saving grace, as 1 Peter 5:5 tells us, is given to the humble. 1 John 1:8-9 warns that we must be totally honest with ourselves and with God: “If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness…”(NIV).
