The condemned men on either side of Jesus were considered of little consequence, but not to Him. Even in His suffering, He reached out to them. At first, both thieves taunted and mocked the man labeled the “King of the Jews.” Yet, one of them had a change of heart from observing Jesus’ quiet strength and apparent goodness. You see, rather than curse the soldiers who nailed Him to a cross, Jesus asked the Father to forgive them. Also, Jesus did not respond when people insulted Him. The way He conducted Himself touched the conscience of the thief. He began to realize Christ’s righteousness and see his own wickedness.
