After walking in the desert for three days without water, we can imagine how the Israelites felt when they spotted an oasis in the distance. With high hopes, they rushed to the life-giving spring. To their disappointment, however, they discovered that the water had a bitter aftertaste - a common problem in the desert. Nevertheless, the water was not poisonous, only bitter. This topic helps us understand that the mercy of God often requires trials and tests - that we might learn and grow strong in our faith.
