Charles Dickens’ fictional character Mark Tapley thought he should never be complimented for always being such a jolly fellow. After all, he had a comfortable life. To prove his character, he embarked on a difficult journey. Christians are sometimes severely tested and God doesn’t expect us to be happy all the time, but we should never lose our joy. Jesus said, “In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” The general state of a Christian should be peace and contentment, gained by obedience, while trusting in God’s grace.
