A woman told a co-worker there were no hymns in her church’s songbook that used the word “blood.” She implied that it was crude and undignified to sing about “that bloody stuff,” apparently ignorant that she was not merely scorning a word, but what it represented, as well the One who said, “This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me” (1 Corinthians 11:25). Could we ever have a proper memorial, in obedience to the Savior, without repeating and cherishing those words? This topic takes a close Biblical look at the blood sacrifice of Jesus Christ and challenges us to passionately embrace it as the most central and beautiful element of true Christianity.
