Why Bad Things Happen to Bad People

Not long ago there was a sport’s show host lamenting the fact that one of the “good guys” in the game had contracted a serious disease. After listening for a period of time, you would be tempted to dial up the 1-800 number he kept giving out to ask him if he had compiled a list of bad guys in sports who he thought should contract this awful disease. It was as if, in this person’s eyes, some people deserve more out of life than others. The apostle Peter, confirming the words of Paul and others, states that God judges everyone without respect of persons. In other words, God cannot, and will not, play favorites.
