Those who climb Mount Everest invest so much of their physical and emotional capitol to reach the summit that they have very little left for the descent. Likewise, it is often the sad case that people who reach the height of their spiritual experience have spent so much spiritual capitol they have little left to sustain them in the aftermath. Then, the neglect of prayer and fasting, reading the Bible, cutting back on witnessing, and skipping church services, are part of the slippery slope to disaster. This topic provides the example of the prophet Elijah’s greatest “mountaintop” experience, his depleted spiritual state immediately afterward, and what he needed to do to get back up on his spiritual feet.
