When Jesus was captured in the garden of Gethsemane, His followers quickly abandoned him. Three days later, we find the apostles gathered in a house behind locked doors, shaking in their sandals. Just one week earlier, when Jesus was in their midst, they were cool, calm, and contented. But, with Christ crucified, they are uncertain and fearful. A major theme in the New Testament is Jesus in the midst - wherever and whenever He is needed – and this is key to the Christian life, because only Jesus in our midst can give us peace.
