God wants us to be separate from the world, meaning the world’s system or order, which places humanity in the center and does not recognize the sovereignty of God. The world has an attraction or magnetism that draws a person away from God’s presence. Like gravity, it seems to pull everything down from a higher level of holiness. The closer we are to the world, the greater its pull on us. The reason God wants us separated from the world isn’t to miss out on all of life’s pleasures. Far from it, but, there is danger in getting too close to the world. Paul warned us, in 2 Corinthians 6:14, “Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?”
