When you think about it, self-examination is the most treacherous journey there is. The famous American monk, Thomas Merton, once said, “The real journey is the journey within.” Much literature today deals with the “outer world” of living the Christian lifestyle. However, it is not possible to live successfully as a Christian without renewing the “inner world” of your heart. In Matthew 23:25-26, Jesus said, “How terrible it will be for you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! You are so careful to clean the outside of the cup and the dish, but inside you are filthy - full of greed and self-indulgence! Blind Pharisees! First wash the inside of the cup, and then the outside will become clean, too.”
